Kelela releaseS live album In the Blue Light

Multi-disciplinary, global songstress Kelela has released the highly anticipated album In The Blue Light - a reimagined body of work fostered from her two-day live residency at The Blue Note in May of 2024. In The Blue Light is a 12-track body of work that leans into both stripped back jazz and acoustic interpretations of some of Kelela's most notable records throughout her discography including cuts from previous albums Cut 4 Me, Hallucinogen, Take Me Apart and most recently, Raven.

In The Blue Light immortalizes a very important highlight within Kelela’s career - a Blue Note Residency which has been a tentpole desire in the singer's career growing up as the child of parents who hold the jazz genre in high esteem. The beauty of this residency led to the creation of In The Blue Light, a masterclass of interpretation and musical immersion- a superpower only a visionary like Kelela possesses. In The Blue Light boasts reflections of live instrumentation including harps and strings; but also strips the singer back into more acoustic productions that focus less on music, but more on her wide-ranging, yet strategic vocal ability.

Accompanying In The Blue Light, comes a documentary film capturing the process of this residency and album, to be released on February 18th. Another highly anticipated body of work, this film piece will capture Kelela in her rawest form, sharing her development, rehearsal and production processes with fans who rarely get to see a glimpse of her behind the scenes. In The Blue Light is available for purchase and stream on all digital platforms, today!

Kelela has something new to say. Or rather, new ways to express what people really think, but too often, dare not say. After a nearly five-year hiatus, she released her groundbreaking album, Raven, in February 2023 and its critically-acclaimed counterpart, RAVE:N, The Remixes in early 2024. The works established Kelela as a curator and executive producer of the highest order, imploring listeners to go even deeper and immerse themselves in a unique sonic landscape.

RAVEN was met with glowing reviews upon release and has been hailed one of the ‘Best Albums of 2023’ by Pitchfork, Billboard, Vulture, Variety and more. The remixes solidified her already-groundbreaking presence in the dance music space. The past two years have been nothing short of incredible for Kelela, as she hit  a range of career milestones, including a heartfelt performance of “Enough for Love” on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, a fresh NPR ‘Tiny Desk Concert’ and global headline tours that sold out in minutes.

The intention Kelela puts into crafting each era — whether that be the range in her sound or the precision in her visual language — continues as we experience this new facet of her legacy with In the Blue Light
