London-based artist Eloise today shares her beautiful new track and video, ‘Who’s She’, taken from her mini-album ‘Somewhere In-Between’, out on June 18th. ‘Who’s She’ follows her dreamy single ‘Intertwined’ and the greatly-received track, ‘Hungover’, which earned her BBC Introducing Track of the Week and consistent plays on BBC Radio 1. Eloise will bring her transfixing new live show to London’s Lafayette on July 5th, tickets here.
The next installment from Eloise’s forthcoming mini-album is ‘Who’s She’; a deeply honest and reflective track accompanied by a gorgeous visual directed by Nicolee Tsin, recorded in one-take and set on a rooftop as Eloise and a partner intertwine and dance together against the alluring pink sunset. In Eloise’s own words, “I wrote this song after I came back from a tour having broken up with my first boyfriend and my whole world felt crazy and I had no control. I felt disoriented because I came home to find that my life, the way I knew it, had gone and I had to carve myself a new one. And in that pursuit I realised the reason I felt lost was less to do with what had changed around me, and more to do with what had changed within me.
I knew exactly what the video had to be. It was so clear. I wanted to create this feeling or surrealism with undertones of very human and complex feelings. I grew up watching old MGM movies with Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse and I wanted to pay homage to that feel of intimacy and romance that those movies always created.”
‘Somewhere In-Between’ is an incredibly raw and unguarded 9-track soundtrack to Eloise’s experiences between adolescence and adulthood, in and out of love, and represents a huge leap forward artistically for Eloise. Eloise has a rare ability for occupying and relaying the gruelling place somewhere between being in love and being broken-hearted, as she explains: “I feel my job is to write about all the ugly feelings: the things that are in-between fuck you songs and being in love songs”. Eloise has had enough incredible experiences to fill several lifetimes, and her uniquely fresh and contemporary voice means she undeniably stands out from the crowd.
Capturing the hearts of many with her acclaimed debut EP ‘This Thing Called Living’, the EP now counts over 25 million streams. Eloise’s unique talent for beautifully delicate storytelling proved a very welcome breath of fresh air in the musical landscape of the time, translating the songs effortlessly into intoxicating live performances, she has toured extensively since the release of her debut and played over 100 shows. You can next witness her magic live at London’s Lafayette on July 5th – tickets are on sale now here.
In a testing time for new artists, Eloise is a talent with the capability to cut through the noise with her take on timeless soul packed with youthful verve; her star is firmly in the ascent.
