"has-been" is the debut album of former AnnenMayKantereit bassist Malte Huck's solo project BEACHPEOPLE. It's been four years since he left AnnenMayKantereit as bassist. Four years is not a lot of time compared to a human life. But enough to start new. Huck realized that he has to do this step about a year prior to his leaving during a trip through the USA and Mexico. The EP “i'll be gone for a little while” from 2022 was the first sign of life as BEACHPEOPLE and a stylistic harbinger of the album, for which work began in Austria at Lake Wolfgang at the end of 2023.
At just under 36 minutes in length, "has-been" has become a very personal archive of the stages of his life to date and the farewells associated with them. The one from the band that brought him to the country's biggest stages. To his friend Julian, alias Lord Folter, who died in 2023 and to whom 7 seconds of silence are dedicated (track #9). To old self-designs, old dependencies, old ideas of what life should or should have looked like.
"MY HEART BREAKS", which is released today, is the second song after "WINTERBOY" to mark the beginning of Maltes own journey on ‘has-been’, which is symbolized by a car journey. In the course of the song, the lyrical self gets out of the car and begins his very own journey instead of being a passenger on his parents' journey, as he was as a child. It is about the loss of innocence, the later transfiguration of childhood and addiction, through which one tries to escape the problems that arise on one's own journey.
