Tommy Richman brings out his debut album 'COYOTE'

COYOTE, Tommy’s debut album, shows him as a disco-funk visionary. Singles like “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE” & “WHITNEY” show sonic diversity. As he prepares his first headlining tour, Tommy Richman is building sonic skyscrapers on a blueprint he’s had since his teens. Releases today via Concord.

Since the mid-2010s, the Woodbridge, Virginia native has meshed sounds and styles with a keen ear, relatable lyrics, and a DIY punk attitude.  Several of his catalog’s three dozen tracks have reached tens of millions.  “I’ve been building up my discography for years. I’m not a one-hit-wonder,’ he asserts.

Tommy Richman never grew complacent or planned on waiting for opportunities to come to him.  In early 2022, he connected with some friends on TikTok and moved to Los Angeles for six months—sleeping on an air mattress and establishing a new network.  Songs like “Games” and mynameisntjmack collaboration “BUNKER/PREROLL” were released and garnered millions of listens. A series of singles gave way to ALLIGATOR, a ’22 seven-song collection including the personal standout, “ELECTIFY TONIGHT.” Brent Faiyaz’s team heard the EP, eventually signing Tommy to ISO Supremacy/PULSE Records.  The two DMV artists embarked on a 35-date tour together.  While on the road, Tommy’s confidence grew.  He dropped THE RUSH EP and appeared alongside FELIX! on Brent’s “Upset,” a hit that now has over 60 million streams.

2024’s success all leads toward COYOTE—an album that began as ALLIGATOR’s follow up and fittingly was completed in the Nevada desert.  The August single “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE” si an R&B moment that captures the illusions of love.  “It’s a great example of slowing things down a little bit,” Tommy says. “It’s not always about the hype songs.  I’m versatile.” This and other album cuts began years ago, often recorded in makeshift studios, and freshened up over time.  “WHITNEY” takes its name from a self-produced beat that Tommy says channeled the vibes of late superstar Whitney Houston.  “I’m excited for people to take it all in. This is really my child,” he explains.  Defiant, self-sufficient, and with sharp teeth, Tommy Richman’s album is ready to make its way in the world.  Sold out shows, starting in September along with festivals will reinforce this album’s journey and reach. “I want people to realized I’m a real artist,” Tommy declares, showing no signs of pausing. “This album is gonna last forever and I’m here to stay.”
